Ans: The word “B.M.W” in the first paragraph of the story tells that the owner of the car is rich.
2.      Why does the driver stop for the hitch-hiker?
Ans: While driving up to London by himself, the writer saw that a man thumbing a lift ahead of him. Then the writer brought the car to a stop beside the hitch-hiker.


3.      How does the driver describe the hitch-hiker?
Ans: According to the writer, the hitch-hiker was a small ratty-faced man with grey teeth. His eyes were dark and quick and clever, like a rat’s eyes, and his ears were slightly pointed at the top. He had a cloth cap on his head and he was wearing a greyish-colored jacket with enormous pockets.
4.      Why does the driver stop questioning the hitch-hiker?
Ans: On the fast days of the writer, he was a hitch-hiker and while hitch hiking when any driver asked him any questions the writer used to get irritated. Remembering this fact, the writer (the driver) stop questioning the hitch-hiker.

Ans: The hitch-hiker asked the driver was he a writer? When the driver asked that he is a writer. Then the hitch-hiker replied that the driver is a good writer as he is driving a new powerful B.M.W car.

Ans: When the driver pressed on accelerator, then within 10 ten seconds it’s speed rose up to ninety which has exceeded the traffic police’s red line. Instead of warning the driver, the hitch-hiker coaxed the driver saying “Lovely, Beautiful! Keep goin!, One hundred! A hundred and ten and fifteen” to drive faster and faster the BMW car.
7.      Why is the hitch hiker reluctant to reveal his profession?
Ans: The hitch hiker was reluctant to reveal his profession because he deals with an illegal profession.
8.      Why does the policeman decide to question the hitch hiker too?
Ans : At first the police man talked with the man and after that he talked with the hitch-hiker and asked him several questions. The police man suspected the hitch hiker as a wicked man and he also warned the driver about the happening incident with the driver.


9.      How did the fingersmith first impress the author with his skill?
Ans: At first the finger smith took a tin of tobacco and a packet of cigarette from his front pocket and started to roll a cigarette speedily. The author was impressed with the skill of the fingersmith.
10. Why did the hitch hiker call himself a fingersmith?
Ans : The hitch hiker had fantastic fingers. He showed his fingers to the author and told that these were quicker and cleverer than the fingers of the best piano player in the world.His job is done with his skilled as well as quicker  fingers. So the hitch hiker called himself a fingersmith.
11. Describe how the fingersmith demonstrates his skill to the author.
Ans: The fingersmith demonstrate his skill to the author by stealing author’s black leather belt, the lace of the shoes, a clock , authors wrist watch and so on.
12. How does the hitch-hiker try to excuse his profession?
Ans: When the author made a comment that the hitch-hiker’s profession is as like as the profession of a pickpocket. Then the fingersmith intended to excuse his profession by uttering , “ The pickpockets are coarse and vulgar people. Moreover they lift money from blind and old ladies. On the other hand his job is done with skilled fingers and that is different from a pickpocket.”
13. What is the meaning of the phrase “hitch-hiker”?
Ans:Hitch-hiker means a traveler who travels by getting free lifts in passing vehicles.
