1. Why do you think one of the men licked his lips?
Ans : When the men’s attention was focused by a giant ant –hill , then one of them licked nervously his lips . Because he knew that the ant-hill had long ago been abandoned by ants. Surprisingly, now it is a hollow shell like a cave.
2. Why does the author say that “demons “lived in the ant hill?
Ans : Here the word ‘demon’ means the giants. The author heard about the ‘jungle demons from the villagers. When the wolves were appeared at the time of sunset from the ant-hill, following them the demons also came from the ant-hill. So the said that the demons lived in the ant-hill.

3. Write down the four sentences from the first part of the passage, which tell you that it is evening.
Ans : The  four sentences from the first part of the passage , that tell us that it is evening are given below:
a)     The platform had been hastily built during the day.
b)    Now, in the twilight, the men knew that their long wait soon be over.
c)     Sunset was time for the demons to appear.
d)    The forest was bathed in a deep red glow from the setting sun.
4. How do we know that Reverend Singh know that the children had been living with the wolves for a long time?
Ans : At first Reverend Singh heard from the villagers about the demons that they were half human , half animal he could not believe the fact. Moreover when he saw the children followed by the 2nd wolf he observed that the children had all the limbs as a human child has .But their attitude was not alike the human child’s attitude. So he understood that the children had been living with the wolves for a long time.

5. Why did the villagers refuse to help?
Ans : As the villagers the creatures were evil spirits so they refused Reverend Singh to help.
6. How do know that the Reverend Singh kept a diary of some sort?
Ans : When the Reverend Singh came back at Godamuri , he ignored the excited talk of his companions and read through the notes he had scribbled at that time.Thus we know that the Reverend Singh kept a diary of some sort.
7 Why did the hunting party beat the ground in front of them?
Ans: The hunting party beat the ground because if there remains any wolf in the ant-hill then they will come out by hearing the beating sound.
8. Why did the Reverend Singh feel bitter and angry with himself?
Ans : When a wolf sprung out of the lair the digger jumped back as it ran off into the thick undergrowth. After that the she-wolf appeared and it was trying to defend her young . She arched her back and bared her teeth, before Singh could give any order, some of the men shot several arrows at her. Seeing this incident Reverend Singh feel bitter and angry with himself.
