Brief questions on Mixture ( mixture, solution, solvent, saturated, suspension, colloid)

                                              Mixture

1.     What is mixture?
Ans : A mixture refers to the physical combination of two or more substances on which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions, and colloids.
2.     What is solution?
Ans:  A solution is a homogenous mixture composed of two or more substances. In such a mixture, a solute is a substance dissolved in another substance, known as a solvent. The concentration of a solute in a solution is a measure of how much of that solute is dissolved in the solvent, with regard to how much solvent is present.
3.     What is solute?
Ans: A solute is the substance to be dissolved (sugar). The solvent is the one doing the dissolving (water).
4.     What is solvent?
Ans : A solvent is a substance that dissolves a solute in a solution. A solvent is usually a liquid but can also be a solid or a gas. The quantity of solute that can dissolve in a specific volume of solvent varies with temperature.
5.     What is watery solution?
Ans: A watery solution is a solution in which the solvent is water.
6.     What is concentration of solution?
Ans: A complete description of a solution states what the solute is and how much solute is dissolved in a given amount of solvent or solution. The quantitative relationship between solute and solvent is the concentration of the solution.
7.     What is saturated?
Ans: A saturated solution is one kind of solution where there are about equal amounts of particles or solutes and solvent in the solution.
8.     What is unsaturated?
Ans: As the temperature of the solvent increases, solubility increases. Additionally, pressure and the nature of the solute and solvent affect solubility. When a solution can have solute added and dissolved, the solution is unsaturated.
9.     What is solubility?
Ans: Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid, or gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gaseous solvent.
10.                        What is universal solvent?
Ans: Water is capable of dissolving a variety of different substances, which is why it is such a good solvent. In fact, water is called the "universal solvent" because it dissolves more substances than any other liquid
11.                        What is homogenous mixture?
Ans:  A mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout. For example, air is a homogeneous mixture of gases. A teaspoonful of table salt stirred into a glass of water also makes a homogeneous mixture.
12.                        What is heterogeneous mixture?
Ans: A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture that composes of components that aren’t uniform or they have localized regions that all have different properties. In a heterogeneous mixture the substances are not in any sort of fixed ratio.
13.                        What is suspension?
Ans:  a suspension is a heterogeneous mixture containing solid particles that are sufficiently large for sedimentation. Usually they must be larger than one micrometer. It is when particles are left floating around freely in a solvent.
14.                        What is colloid?
Ans: A colloid is a substance in which one substance of microscopically dispersed insoluble particles is suspended throughout another substance. Sometimes the dispersed substance alone is called the colloid

What is the difference between mixture and solution ?
Ans :The differences between mixture and solution are given below :

Mixture
Solution
1.A mixture is a substance made by combining two or more different materials in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs.
2.A mixture can usually be separated back into its original components.

3.Examples :salad, salt water etc.
1.A solution is a homogeneous mixture of one or more solutes dissolved in a solvent.

2.A solution can not  usually be separated back into its original components .
Examples : liquids, gases, and solids.
